On Saturday 16th April, the organisers are
expecting between 30 and 50 boats. However, being the first one,
they will not know the exact number of entrants until the
day.
This is the first time Welton has had the
opportunity to run this event. It is open to young people aged 18
and under and is for single handed sailing. It is supported by the
Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

The Treasurer of Welton Sailing Club, Diane Porter
is very excited: "We are delighted to be holding the first event on
the Yorkshire and Humberside circuit. This event is being sponsored
by East Riding Council, Kildale Marine and Wet and Wild, and we're
looking forward to a very successful event."
Welton Sailing Club is situated on the banks on the
Humber near Brough. It is a vibrant club with approximately 60
members, plus a number of support parents etc. As well as this
competition, they hold regional qualifiers for a youth RYA powerboat
competition. They have ten qualified dingy instructors and run
regular training sessions for juniors and adult members. They have
many juniors who regularly qualify in national events.
