For those who were not on the New Years Day Walk – Happy New Year! Now the festive season is over we can start to plan for the year ahead, will we at last get some stable summer weather? Well we can only wish and hopefully prepare in anticipation.

2010 Racing Programme

Steve Abbott has promptly produced the start of this years Racing Programme which starts next Sunday 24th January, weather permitting. Racing is scheduled to take place every 2 weeks unless a week is cancelled due to
weather in which case it will be postponed by one week. All is specified on the attachment. As of today there was still a layer of ice on the water but hopefully the thaw will continue next week and racing can get underway as planned for those prepared to stand the cold! Steve assures me that racing will only take place if there is zero risk of a capsize.

Mini Working Parties

Mini working parties are planned on alternative weekends to the racing, starting on Sunday 31st January from 10.30am., these are also shown on Steve’s Racing Programme attached. There are repairs to do on the jetties
and still some more weed cutting and hopefully harrowing work to do. The board have authorised for us to purchase some harrowing equipment, we first need to re-commission the Weed Boat engine after all the cold weather. We are not looking for a big turn out just need six or seven people to make preparations for the new season. Bring a packed lunch and look forward to a nice day in the fresh air with some good company. If the weather looks really bad don’t turn up. Visitors are welcome to join us for a picnic lunch and chat at about 1 pm.

EGM

The EGM to appoint a new Commodore and other officers will take place at 7.45 pm on Thursday 25th February 2010 at the Half Moon Pub in Elloughton. As well as appointing new officers we also wish to allow members to share their views on Club Security which is of concern because we have had another break in at the Club in December and our new engines purchased only in July have been stolen. The club cannot function without rescue boats and needs engines; fortunately we do have the Weed Boat with an inboard engine which is too heavy to take away. Members of the WWSC Board will be present to share their views on club security. While this is particularly bad news the positive side is that there has not been any damage done to members boats. An agenda for the EGM will be issued early in February.

Social Events

The Launch Supper is planned for Thursday 11th March, please add to your diary, Judy will be sending out more details once the final arrangements have been made.

Judy is also planning a Ladies Evening at Mark Hills Saloon that will include a pre-consultation with free drinks and nibbles. The date is not fixed yet but it will take place on a Thursday evening.

Steve Abbott is prepared to arrange a ‘Rules Social Evening’ run by a regional RYA representative say on a Thursday evening in either February or March. If you are interested in this event please let me know.

Committee Minutes

Both the Welton Sailing Club and Welton Water Sports Club Committee Meeting minutes are now being posted on notice boards at the Club House. If anybody feels they would like the Sailing Club minutes emailed to them, we can provide this but will only do so on request so as not to clutter up your email system with unwanted information. Please advise by reply email if you require this information.

Use of the Clubhouse

Prior the cold weather John Pettingale and myself repaired all the damaged pipe lagging in the Clubhouse loft space and Peter Hirschfeld made sure the water inside the club was isolated. So far we have not had any burst pipes but special care will have to be taken when turning on the supply again which we may do next week end. At the end of use each weekend we will turn the supply off to be on the safe side.

Quarantined Boats

Mike Burton organised the tidy up of the boat compound at the end of the season which has made a great improvement, we now have a list of boats where we are unable to identify 2009 paid up members. If you recognise your boat on the list please get in touch so that we can update our records if we have made an error. No problem if you did not join last year and did not sail but we do need to know what your plans are this year. Sorry there are no sail numbers given for these boats, I was reluctant to strip off covers when recording the details.
