A few messages to keep everybody informed about our current activities:-

Streaker Open Meeting.

This took place last Saturday in lovely sunny weather and a nice Force 2-4 fresh SE wind. We had 25 boats attend which allowed close competitive racing with good starts and no protests making it an enjoyable day for everybody. Well done to Dave Smith who finished overall in 2nd place and also good performances by other local boats, Dave Butler – 6th, Pete Fletcher – 9th, Mark Hill – 10th, and Mike Holmes – 15th. The event ran perfectly due to a lot of preparation work by members before the event and on the day. Fortunately the rescue boats were not required and thank you to David Walton who provided safety cover in their new Scout Rescue Boat. The catering organised by Judy was appreciated by everybody, with a lovely lunch which we were able to eat outside on the grass and for the unresistible cakes provided by members that sent the visitors away feeling Welton had once again provided a first class event.

I would like to thank all members who contributed to the event either helping or participating in making it a successful day for the Club. We all worked hard and deserved to get the lovely weather that contributed to the success. A big thank you to everybody.

Weed Control.

You will have read in the last News Letter that this year we plan to add Blue Dye to the lake to prevent the growth of weed. While I was on the water last weekend, the weed could be seen growing towards the surface of the water and so we have decided to add the dye to the lake on Wednesday 18th April. It will take a few days for the dye to disperse into the depths of the lake but we hope it will be diluted sufficiently for the Thursday Evening Race to take place as planned this week. We are assured by the dye manufactures that this will successfully eliminate weed during the growing season, we may need to do a half dose top up later in the season. I have previously sent out information about the dye but if any member has concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. The Environmental Agency has approved the use of this product at Welton Waters.

Thursday Evening Racing

The racing programme starts this week with the first race at 7pm. Normally we would get the BBQ out but this week we will use the cooker in the clubhouse but remember to bring your own food – sausages/burgers/chops etc.

Membership

So far we have had a good response to this years membership fees but can we remind those who intend to join and have not paid their fees are due by the end of May and must be paid before going on the water. Please contact Karen Hood if you need any further information about membership. We also have a few new members who we welcome and hope they will quickly get their boats on the water and join in with the social events.

Commodores Day Cancellation

Commodores Day originally planned for 3rd/4th July has had to be cancelled because the Commodore has a family event that clashes with the proposed dates. Instead of Commodores Day we are proposing to hold a ‘Friends and Family Day’ on Sunday 8th August. More information on this in the next email.
